The first week of September brought something truly special to my hometown: the Urban World Series in collaboration with the Streetboard World Series. This was an invitational event featuring some of the best riders from around the world – Germany, the UK, Chile, Spain and beyond. It was an honor to not only ride alongside these legends but to have this level of competition take place in Barcelona.
The training & Format
We had just one hour of training on Thursday to get used to the setup – From there, it was straight into the finals on Sunday. Each rider had two runs with the best run counting, followed by three attempts at best tricks, with the two best tricks counting toward the final score.
The level of riding was unreal. Everyone came to throw down, and the energy on the course was electric.
Highlights from the Event
Some moments will stick with me forever:
- David Larrota pulled a massive rodeo that blew everyone’s minds, even though it didn’t get him onto the podium.
- Gabi Muñoz went for an absolutely insane backflip to 50-50 grind attempt – it didn’t quite land, but it had the whole crowd on their feet.
This is exactly what makes streetboarding so incredible: the passion, the risk, and the progression happening right in front of your eyes.
Podium Results
After an intense day of competition, the podium looked like this:
1st Place – Me jajaj
2nd Place – Mario Kurle
3rd Place – Alex Villanueva
Taking the win at home in Barcelona meant the world to me.
A Special Win at Home
This event was especially meaningful because it was the first time my kids were there to see me compete. They didn’t totally understand what was going on, but my son only had one question: is the gold medal for me ? ;).
I also want to give a huge thank you to my girlfriend, who was there supporting me and cheering louder than anyone. She’s the one who inspires and motivates me to keep pushing myself every single day.
Looking Ahead
Barcelona’s hosting was incredible, the crowd was amazing, and the level of riding keeps pushing our sport forward. I truly hope we’ll be back for this event again in the future – it’s exactly the kind of platform streetboarding deserves.
