Hey everyone! Sergi here, and today I want to break down one of the coolest tricks you can learn on a and one of my favorite ones: the backside K-Grind. If you’ve already checked out my latest video, you’ve seen how fun and stylish this trick is. Now, let’s take a closer look at how to do it step by step, you need to watch the video :)
But what is a Backside K-Grind?
A BS K-Grind is a trick where you ride your streetboard with your back facing the direction of your obstacle and grinding with your front truck and plate touching it. Don’t worry—it’s easier than it looks if you practice the basics.
Steps to Nail the BS K-Grind
1. Start with the Basics
Make sure you’re comfortable doing bs grinds, practice on the flat imagining the rail or ledge on the ground.
2. Approach with Confidence
Ride toward your spot at a steady, manageable speed. A medium speed is ideal—not too slow to lose momentum but not so fast that you feel out of control.
3. Set Your Stance
As you begin the backside turn, shift your weight slightly to your heels (for goofy riders) or toes (for regular riders). This will help you pivot your body and keep the board stable.
5. Balance and Flow
Once your back is facing the direction of travel, keep your knees bent and core engaged. Use your arms to balance and keep the motion smooth. Look over your shoulder to stay aware of where you’re heading.
6. Ride It Out
Keep your stance solid and maintain your speed as you ride the backside gain. When you’re ready, turn back to your regular stance, using the same technique to exit smoothly.
Pro Tips for Success
• Practice on flat ground first. This will help you get used to the motion without worrying about speed or obstacles.
• Don’t rush it. Focus on controlling your body and balance throughout the trick. Smooth execution is more important than speed at the start.
• Watch your footing. Keep your feet evenly distributed on the board to stay balanced.
